Our Services Explained

All our services take place at St. Mary’s church, Bitton except on a fifth Sunday when the service may be at one of our other churches in the group.

First Sunday of the month –  Parish Eucharist

When does it happen  10.30 am Sunday morning

What’s it like – In this service we welcome all those who are baptised to share bread and wine and remember Jesus’ death and resurrection.  There is a mixture of hymns and contemporary songs, prayers and bible readings and there is a bible-based talk. After the service there is opportunity for conversation and coffee.

Who’s it for – we extend a welcome for everyone, but the service content is aimed at an adult audience.  There are toys and books for young children available at the back of church.

Second Sunday of the month – Family Service

When does it happen – 10.30 am Sunday morning

What’s it like –  We gather together in worship usually in a more informal, interactive  style with contemporary songs and music, prayers, bible readings, drama and a talk.  Sometimes, we adopt a more formal style when the occasion demands. On some Sundays we adopt a more traditional land formal style

There are refreshments served after the service.

Who’s it for – we extend a welcome for everyone, but the service content is aimed at young people and their families, and it is a service that the local Cubs, Scouts, Brownies and Guides attend regularly.

Third Sunday of the month – Morning Worship

When does it happen – 10.30 am Sunday morning

What’s it like – A more formal service with prayers, hymns, worship songs and bible readings and a bible-based talk. After the service there is opportunity for conversation and coffee.

Who’s it for – we extend a welcome for everyone, but the service content is aimed at an adult audience.  There are toys and books for young children available at the back of church.

Fourth Sunday of the month

Eucharist

When does it happen – 8.00 am Sunday morning

What’s it like – A traditional service using the Book of Common Prayer. This is a quieter and more reflective service with prayers, readings, and a talk.

Who’s it for – we extend a welcome for everyone, but the service content is aimed at an adult audience.

Fourth Sunday of the month

Family Café Church

When does it happen – 9.30 am Sunday morning

What’s it like – We gather together in worship in a more informal, interactive café style with contemporary songs and music, prayers, bible readings, drama, story and craft activities. There is breakfast serviced during the service with coffee and tea.

Who’s it for – we extend a welcome for everyone, but the service content is aimed at children and young families.

Fifth Sunday of the Month – United Benefice service

Where – If there is a fifth Sunday in the month we gather together as a group of churches in one of the churches in the group.  See news updates on this website, our parish magazine or local church notice boards for details of venues for this service

What’s it like – In this service we welcome all those who are baptised to share bread and wine and remember Jesus’ death and resurrection.  There is a mixture of hymns and contemporary songs, prayers and bible readings and there is a bible-based talk. After the service there is opportunity for conversation and coffee and then to join in with a bring-and- share lunch.

Who’s it for – we extend a welcome for everyone.

Celtic Communion

When does it happen – 9.30 am on the fourth Thursday of the month

What’s it like – In this service we welcome all those who are baptised to share bread and wine and remember Jesus’ death and resurrection.  There are prayers and bible readings and sometimes a bible-based talk. After the service there is opportunity for conversation and coffee and there is always cake!

Who’s it for – we extend a welcome for everyone although this service will appeal to adults who are fond of the Celtic tradition of worship.
