Fête 2023

There was a large turnout for the 2023 St Mary’s Church Fête, in Bitton, on Saturday 2nd September.

After weeks of poor weather, blue skies appeared over Bitton for the afternoon of activities and fête goers flocked to the event.  The fête also included a Dog Show run by Highcroft Veterinary Centre Longwell Green.

Those attending were able to enjoy a wide variety of stalls and games as well as refreshments and entertainments. Music was provided by #Oldland Brass, the Jazzbeanz and the St Mary’s Minstrels

Tatters and Tails Morris performed during the afternoon and, as always the highlight of the event was the traditional egg throwing competition.  An added attraction, was the display of some beautifully made Fabergé style eggs by Joan Blake.

The fête was opened by local celebrity, Marlene Gallop, whose involvement in the fête stretches back to 1966, when she returned from her honeymoon to be asked (it was more of an instruction) to make some soup for the forthcoming fête.  Marlene has been supporting the Bitton Fête every year since and, this year, conducted the formal opening and drew the raffle winners.

After expenses had been calculated the total amount raised was £11,148.24 of which 10% will be retained to support next year’s event and the remainder to church funds for the upkeep and running of the church.

Thanks go to all those who worked to make the fête such a great success and to all who attended.  We hope to see you again next year.
