Conserving the Seymour Altar Cloth

St Mary’s, Bitton, owns a very old altar cloth, dating from the 1690s if not earlier.  It was given to the church by Col. John Seymour, in memory of his grandfather.  Col Seymour later became the 10th Royal Governor of Maryland.

Every Thursday afternoon for the next two months a team of conservators will be in the church working on the cloth and visitors are welcome.
