Advent & Christmas 2023

Stars and singing play quite a role at any Christmas, but this year they have a central role in The Church of England’s campaign to encourage people to attend church and to join in the song this Christmas.

Christmas carols are perhaps the best known church music and singing not only draws us closer to God, but to each other too as a shared experience.

To underline the theme one of the country’s leading choral composers, Bob Chilcott, has composed a new melody for The First Nowell which offers a brand new interpretation of the carol. The church choir will be singing this carol during the Candlelit Service of Nine Lessons and Carols on Sunday 16th December.  But there will be many other pieces of well-known carols and music at the event too.

As well as the Carol Service there are other opportunities for you to celebrate Advent and Christmas with us at St Marys. You wil always be most welcome.
