It’s Shrove Tuesday or as it is known in many parts of the world “Mardi Gras” which translates as “Fat Tuesday”.
It is the last day before Lent, a season of fasting and denial, so people would use up their foods like eggs, flour and fat to make pancakes. The word Shrove comes from an old English word that meant confession – a day when people would confess their sins or “shrive” themselves before Lent began.
