Bitton’s Annual Church Fête took place this year on 6th September. After a long dry summer, the weather changed in mid-August leaving organisers desperately watching the forecast for the big day. And then the sun shone!
The result was a bumper event, with more stalls than ever before and a larger number of visitors. As ever, the fête mixed old and new. There were all the traditional stalls including Books, White Elephant and games such as the Coconut Shy and skittles.
There was a great food selection, including pulled pork, pizza and a barbeque on the field plus teas in the church and cream teas in Church Farm, generously provided by Bridget and Martin Hetzel. The fête also included, for the first time, a performance by the Dawn Chorus, Bitton’s new community choir, which helped open the fête with a hearty “Come to the Fair” song, before the official opening by Ken and Jill Gibson.
The raffle was won by Alan and Jean Aldous and, of course the fête did not end without the traditional Great Bitton Egg Throwing Contest.
Overall, the fête was an enormous success raising over £12,000 for church funds which helps maintain the historic building in the centre of the village. A big thank you to all who came and enjoyed the afternoon and an even bigger thank you to all those who helped to make the day such a great success,
And next year….it all happens again. So put the first Saturday in September in your diary for the 2026 Fête.
